Promissory.ca is an independent Canadian loan comparison and information service. We help people understand borrowing costs and compare options from Canadian lending partners.
What we do

What we do not do
- We are not a lender, bank, mortgage broker or credit counsellor.
- We do not make lending decisions and we cannot approve or deny an application.
- We do not charge consumers a fee to use this service.
- We do not sell your personal information.
How we make money
Promissory.ca is free to use. We may receive compensation from lending partners when you click a partner link or submit an application. This is how the site is funded. Compensation does not change the information we publish, and it never changes the fact that we tell you when a product is expensive or when a cheaper alternative exists.
How we keep content accurate
Every factual claim on this site is attributed to an official source such as the Canada Revenue Agency, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, OSFI, the Department of Justice, or a provincial consumer protection regulator. Each page shows the date it was last updated. Where no official figure exists, we link to the source rather than estimate a number.

How we choose lending partners
We work with lending partners that operate in Canada and that provide clear cost-of-credit disclosure. A partner's willingness to pay us does not determine whether we describe a product favourably. We do not publish a ranked list of lenders, and we do not claim that any partner is the cheapest or the best. When a product is expensive — payday loans are the clearest example — we say so on the page and point to lower-cost alternatives.
Who this site is for
Promissory.ca is written for Canadian consumers who want to understand borrowing before they commit. That includes people comparing their first personal loan, people consolidating credit card debt, first-time home buyers working through mortgage qualification, and anyone who wants to check what a payday loan actually costs before taking one out.
What we are not
We are not a lender, a mortgage broker, a credit counsellor or a Licensed Insolvency Trustee. We cannot approve, deny or change an application, and we cannot access your account with any lender. If you are in financial difficulty, we will always point you to a non-profit credit counselling service or a Licensed Insolvency Trustee rather than to more borrowing.
